Adrian Campos, the founder of Campos Racing, has died at the age of 60. The team confirmed his passing early Thursday morning. Campos Racing stated that "his memory will be the engine that will keep us all fighting to continue his legacy.", according to Crash.net
Adrian Campos's Racing Career
Campos competed in Formula 1 with Minardi in 1987. He finished one of 16 races that season. He left F1 five races into the 1988 season. Following his F1 tenure, Campos won the Spanish national Super Touring Championship in 1994., according to Crash.net
Campos Racing Legacy
Campos established Campos Racing in 1997. The team provided Fernando Alonso with his car racing debut in the 1999 Euro Open by Nissan. Alonso secured the championship with Campos Racing at 17 years old. Campos Racing joined the GP2 grid in 2005. The team won the teams’ title in 2008 with Lucas di Grassi and Vitaly Petrov. Control of the team was then transferred to Alejandro Agag, renaming it Addax. The Campos name returned to the championship in 2014. They now compete in Formula 2 and Formula 3. Jack Aitken secured Campos Racing's most recent race victory in 2019 in F2. Aitken, current Williams F1 reserve driver, raced for Campos in 2019 and 2020. He achieved three wins across those two seasons. Campos was part of a successful bid to enter F1 in 2010. This team was later sold and renamed Hispania Racing.
