Pajari secures third consecutive WRC victory
Finnish driver Sami Pajari has achieved his third consecutive WRC victory, tightening the championship fight with Elfyn Evans.

Pajari’s Consistent Performance Fuels Championship Bid
Finnish driver Sami Pajari has now secured his third consecutive World Rally Championship victory, with his recent win at Rally Paraguay following triumphs in Estonia and Finland. This remarkable sequence of successes has dramatically narrowed the gap to championship leader Elfyn Evans, making the final four rounds of the season exceptionally competitive for the WRC title.
Triple Triumph for the Finn
Sami Pajari achieved his maiden World Rally Championship victory in July at Rally Estonia, driving for Toyota. This was swiftly followed by a commanding home win at Rally Finland. Pajari then continued his exceptional run, securing a third consecutive victory at Rally Paraguay last weekend. RallyJournal reported that Juha Kankkunen, who served as Toyota team principal in Paraguay, expressed significant satisfaction with Pajari's achievements. Kankkunen noted, "We’re very happy to see Sami achieve this incredible result by taking his first three victories in a row." He also highlighted the differing challenges of these rallies, remarking, "Estonia and Finland were more familiar rallies for him, but this event in Paraguay is still very new for everybody, with very different challenges."
Navigating Paraguayan Challenges
Rally Paraguay proved to be particularly demanding from its opening stages, presenting difficulties for many competitors. Pajari’s Toyota teammates, Takamoto Katsuta and Sebastien Ogier, both retired early in the rally. Additionally, the first day saw numerous punctures across the field, underscoring the severity of the conditions. In contrast, Pajari maintained a clean run throughout the event, avoiding significant trouble and consequently securing the highest points haul available in Paraguay. This strong performance brought him within 20 points of championship leader Elfyn Evans in the overall standings. Kankkunen praised Pajari's measured approach, stating, "The conditions were not easy, especially on Friday when there was a lot of drama happening, but Sami managed without major problems. He drove consistently without taking too much risk and did a very good job."
Manufacturers' Title Nears for Toyota
Despite the individual success of Pajari, Toyota's bid for the manufacturers’ title was not fully sealed in Paraguay. While they made considerable progress, Hyundai's strong showing ensured the contest will extend to at least another round. RallyJournal reported that the team now looks towards Rally Chile, the next event on the calendar, as another opportunity to clinch the championship. Kankkunen acknowledged the strength of their rivals, commenting, "Our competition was strong here, but we are another step closer to the manufacturers’ title and we’re looking forward to Chile."
